Stomach Acid Problem
|
Acid indigestion - Acid indigestion is a type of indigestion involving an excess of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Frequent occurrence of acid indigestion can lead to aggravation of the duodenum or to an aggravation of the lining of the stomach, both of which can lead to ulcers which can be life-threatening.
Gastric acid - Gastric acid is, together with several enzymes and the intrinsic factor, one of the main secretions of the stomach. Chemically it is an acid solution consisting mainly of hydrochloric acid, but also containing small quantities of potassium chloride (KCl) and sodium chloride (NaCl).
Antacid - An antacid is any substance, generally a base, that counteracts stomach acidity. It is taken by mouth to relieve heartburn, sour stomach, or acid indigestion.
Achlorhydria - Achlorhydria or hypochlorhydria is decreased production of gastric acid by the stomach. Its main cause is antibody production against parietal cells, the cells that normally produce the acid, and is therefore an autoimmune disorder.
