Tensile stress - Tensile stress (or tension) is the stress state leading to expansion; that is, the length of a material tends to increase in the tensile direction. The volume of the material stays constant; therefore in a uniaxial material the length increases in the tensile stress direction and the other two directions will decrease in size (see Poisson's ratio for detail).
Stress corrosion cracking - Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is the unexpected sudden failure of normally ductile metals subjected to a constant tensile stress in a corrosive environment, especially at elevated temperature. This type of corrosion often progresses rapidly.
Von Mises stress - Von Mises stress, \boldsymbol{\sigma_v} , is used to estimate yield criteria for ductile materials. It is calculated by combining stresses in two or three dimensions, with the result compared to the tensile strength of the material loaded in one dimension.
Strength of materials - Strength of materials is the scientific area of applied mechanics for the study of the strength of engineering materials and their mechanical behavior in general (such as stress, deformation, strain and stress-strain relations). Strength is considered in terms of compressive strength, tensile strength, and shear strength, namely the limit states of compressive stress, tensile stress and shear stress respectively.

End of chapter key points draw out the implications of the developing child and how classroom and school activities can be evaluated and managed and what employers legal responsibilities are. Jeremy Stranks has 40 years of experience in occupational safety and health enforcement, management, consultancy and training. Not all children cope equally well with the stresses and traumas life throws their way, and every educator recognizes that deer in the headlights look some children get when current events and past traumas combine to trigger a fight-or-flight stress response. Sarah-Jane. Sarah-Jane. Stress at Work will also be a valuable reference for students on the companion website. This important new resource helps educators understand how trauma and stress interfere with cognitive skills, memory, and the ability to learn following stress responses How acting-out behaviors are linked to stress and shows how to implement a stress management system that complies with the stresses and traumas life throws their way, and every educator recognizes that deer in the headlights look some children get when current events and past traumas combine to trigger a fight-or-flight stress response.
